1923 Ford T Roadster

This article features Dave Astin and his 1923 Ford T Roadster. Dave is from Denver, NC and moved to Blairsville, GA in the early 90’s. He has been a hot rodder for over 25 years. His current ride is a 1923 Ford T Roadster that he had a hand in building with a friend. He was able to purchase the car in early 2008 and put the finishing touches on it.

The car is a Total Performance kit car. It sports a straight front axle and a Ford 9" rear end with 4:10 gears. The engine is a 400 c.i. Ford Cleveland bored .030 over with a set of TRW aluminum pistons and a hydraulic lifter cam. The top end has a pair of reworked heads and a Edelbrock 650 AFB carburetor on an aluminum intake manifold. The headers are from Total Performance also and are custom made to fit this type of project car. The engine is putting out about 400 horsepower and sending it to the rear wheels through a beefed-up Ford C6 automatic transmission.

The car is fitted with front disc brakes, Aluminum Centerline front rims and 165X15 YKS tires. The rear tires are 305X50R15 B. F. Goodrich tires on Aluminum Centerline Racing wheels. The fiberglass body exterior is painted Cadillac White Pearl and the interior is basic black with black bucket seats. The dash is fitted with Stewart-Warner gauges. Dave drives the car on most weekends and attends cruise-ins in the North Georgia and Western North Carolina area
