1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe
Blairsville, GA

This article features Patty and Shum Bougher and their 1940 Ford. Shum and his wife retired to Blairsville GA about four years ago, from Florida where he was a building inspector. They purchased this car eight years ago at a show in Daytona Beach, FL.

The car is a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. The Boughers purchased their car completed, but decided to make changes to make it their own. The engine is a 350 ci Chevy bored .030 over with a mild cam and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold fitted with an Edelbrock 600cfm 4-barrell carburetor. The engine has plenty of chrome goodies as most of the street rods do. The engine has the standard Ram type exhaust headers and exits through a custom made dual exhaust system. The 225 horsepower is put to the road through a Chevy Turbo 350 Transmission to the 9 inch Ford rearend with 2:70 gears.

The front suspension was converted to a 1969 Chevy Corvair, with a late model Chevy van tilt steering column and custom steering wheel. Front tires are P185/75RX14 BF Goodrich and the rear sports P225/75RX15 BF Goodrich all mounted on U.S. Mag Steel Wheels.

The interior was changed from the tweed upholstery that came in the car to tan naugahyde fabric in the car and trunk. The exterior is painted Jet Black, probably Henry Fords favorite color. The dash gauges have been changed to more modern type custom gauges. This car is driven on a regular basis and gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. Shum and his wife enjoy the cruise-ins and car shows they attend. Shum and patty are working on two more project vehicles, a 1933 Ford and a 1948 Ford Pickup that will be featured in future articles.
