1946 Chevrolet Pickup
Dahlonega, GA
Steven Bannister and his ’46 Chevy Pick up are featured in this article.
Steven participates in cruise-ins and car shows mainly in Northeast Georgia.
Steven is from Dahlonega, GA. where he owns and operates an auto body shop.
The truck is a 1946 Chevy ½ ton pickup that he purchased for $250 has
owned for over 20 years. The truck was pretty rough when he got it, but being
in the body shop business, he didn’t let that faze him because he was
going to completely redo the truck anyway. The truck is all original steel with
a lot of man hours of work to keep it that way.
The engine is a 355 ci Chevy that has been bored .030 over with high compression
aluminum pistons and a high lift cam. The heads are Dart Pro Aluminum Heads,
that are supporting a 671 GM blower with 2 - 750 cfm Holly 4-barrell carburetors.
Ignition is MSD and the headers are Sanderson block huggers exiting through
a custom made 3” dual exhaust system with Flo Master Mufflers. The 650
HP is put to the road through a reworked Turbo 400 automatic transmission to
a Ford 9-inch differential. The engine is decked out with its share of chrome
and aluminum.
The front and rear suspension is from an ‘87 Chevy Corvette which also
allowed Steven to use 4-wheel disc brakes on his truck. American Aluminum wheels
with P255/60R15 Goodyear Eagle tires on the rear and P215/60R14 Goodyear Eagle
tires on the front.
The interior has a pair of Morris Minor bucket seats upholstered in black along
with a black dash and custom gauges. The steering column is a tilt wheel type
out of a ‘74 Chevy van, with a custom steering wheel installed. The truck
bed was replaced with a beautiful oak floor that can be raised up the show the
rear suspension configuration installed by Steven. The truck is painted Mercedes
Silver and Black.
Steven has been a rodder since high school when he started on his first project.
He has over $25,000 in materials on this truck, but has no idea the total cost
of his man hours.
