1955 Chevrolet Bel Aire
Franklin, NC
Bill Perry and his beautiful1955 Chevrolet. Bill is from Miami, Florida and
has lived in Franklin for 28 years. He has been a street rodder as long as he
can remember, and has built many cars.
Bill purchased this 1955 Chevy that was ready for the junk yard and turned it
into an award winning show car. It’s a 1955 Chevrolet 2 door post Bel
Aire that has been radically customized. Bill had the car built in Franklin,
NC. by Progressive Design. The frame is an Art Morrison hand built custom chassis
with a custom built front suspension with rack and pinion steering. The body
has shaved hood, trunk and doors that all open electronically by remote control.
The left tail light slides out by remote control to put gas in the tank. The
dash is barely stock in shape but looks factory made. All the gauges are digital
and the lower part of the dash designed specially for the air conditioning.
This vehicle has so many goodies and neat ideas, it would take a 5 page spread
to do it justice. The car usually wins best in show at all its showings.
The car sports an LS2 Corvette engine by Street Performance in Franklin and
is coupled to a 6 speed manual transmission. Power is put to the road through
a Ford 9 inch rear end with 3:73 gears. The car has custom built headers and
the dual exhaust is routed through the custom built chassis. All the wires to
the engine and front lights are routed under the fenders and on the custom built
radiator cross member and are not exposed to the eye. The wiper motor and the
master brake cylinder are not mounted on the firewall like most cars, but is
mounted under the dash inside the car and are not visible. The car sports 3
televisions, one mounted in the dash console, one in the back seat and one in
the trunk. The car has Intro Aluminum rims with 245X40R 18 on the front and
245X40R 20 on the rear mounted with B.F .Goodrich tires. The car also has 4
wheel disc brakes. The front and rear bucket seats are also custom made and
are covered with gray leather upholstery. The exterior is Burple (yes Burple)
and silver custom paint by House of Colors. The car took 3 years and 3000 hours
to complete and Bill recently turned down a $140,000 offer.
